Rum Nation Versailles Demerara VSG 1990

Rum Nation bottled this 1990 Versailles VSG at the considerable age of thirty years, a cask strength release in the dark, old Versailles style. The single wooden pot still gives the VSG marque, robust and tannic with raw wood, dark fruit and leather, sitting between the elegant Enmore and the oily Port Mourant. Three decades of maturation have given it real depth and polish.

Molasses based and matured in ex-bourbon oak, it noses on chocolate, vanilla, tropical fruit and a mineral edge, with leather emerging as it rests, then carries wood, cocoa, spice and vanilla across the palate before a warm finish of dried fruit, dryness and wood. At 56.8% the proof carries the age well, and the result is a rich, dark and fruity old Versailles with the typical profile of a long aged wooden pot still rum. A deep, characterful expression of the marque at a venerable age.
