A twelve year cask strength TDL from Italy’s Rum Nation, soft and dry for Trinidad, with woody caramel, dried fruit, mint and a touch of cherry over a rounded body that sips calmly despite its 53.4%.
Description
This is a 2012 vintage TDL bottled by Italy's Rum Nation, aged twelve years and released at cask strength. TDL is the column-still producer behind Angostura, working from Trinidadian molasses in a lighter, more fragrant style. Rum Nation is a well-regarded house known for approachable regional releases, and this bottling lands as a gentle, dry Trinidad rather than an intense one.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak and certified unsweetened, it keeps the clean clarity that the column still gives. The aroma runs minty and woody with smoke and caramel, the palate stays soft with woody caramel, dried fruit and mint, and the finish is light with cherry and a minty freshness. There is a touch of cherry-and-smoke personality woven through a calm, balanced body, the kind of cask strength that sips quietly rather than aggressively and makes an easy entry to the drier Trinidad style at 53.4%.
