A cask strength 12 Year Old Port Mourant with a sherry finish, bottled dry at 59%, tight and tannic with fresh fruit, nuts, spice and woody bitterness over an earthy, herbal base.
Description
Rum Nation bottled this 2010 Port Mourant in its Rare Rums tier, where the rums are left dry, drawing on the double wooden pot still that defines the heaviest Guyanese profile. At twelve years and 59%, it is younger and more structured than the decades-old Port Mourants, with a sherry finish adding a twist to the still's character.
Distilled from molasses on the greenheart pot still and finished in a sherry cask, it shows wood, fruit, earth and a flowery edge on the nose, then wood, spice, tannins and tropical fruit on the palate, finishing on wood, dried fruit, roasted notes and herbs. Bottled unsweetened, it keeps the structure tight and the bitterness firm, a serious, characterful sipper rather than a soft one. The sherry layer rounds the edges slightly without softening the tannic core, making this a punchy, dry Port Mourant at a sensible price.
