Rum Nation Peruano Limited Edition 2017 2009

Rum Nation built its name on regional bottlings with a signature two stage ageing, and this Peruvian limited edition is a good example of its softer, more approachable side. Distilled in 2009 and bottled at eight years for the 2017 release, it is a column still molasses rum in the Spanish style, gentle at 42% and aimed squarely at easy sipping.

The nose mixes dried fruit and ripe banana with a light glue note that hints at a touch of ester life, plus vanilla. On the palate it turns sweet and fruity, with burnt sugar, dark chocolate and caramel leading into a finish of soft wood and tropical fruit. Reviewers describe it as a pleasant entry point with some subtle earthy character, and while added sugar is not disclosed, it reads as a rounded, beginner friendly Peruvian rum rather than a dry or challenging one.
