Rum Nation's 2025 release of Grays is a Mauritian molasses rum, distinct from the island's cane juice agricole style, drawn from a 2017 vintage and bottled at cask strength 54.9%. Grays sits behind the New Grove name on Mauritius, and this 8 year old leans into dark, dessert-led character.
Maturation in ex-bourbon oak gives a roasty, chocolate-rich profile: dark chocolate, chocolate and dried fruit on the nose, a palate of dark chocolate, caramel, coffee and spice, then a finish of tropical fruit, oak and more chocolate. There is a natural sweetness and an oily, spicy weight that the strength carries well. A warming, after-dinner molasses rum for those who like roasted, coffee-and-cocoa depth, comfortable neat with a little water.
