An affordable, drier Port Mourant at a punchy 58.3 percent, this 11 year single cask leans into the bitter, leathery side of the marque with cherry, vanilla and coffee over wood, a solid cask strength entry into Guyana pot still.
Description
Rum Exchange bottled this 11 year Port Mourant, distilled off the double wooden greenheart pot still that gives Guyana its heaviest and most distinctive marque. Drawn at a punchy 58.3 percent, it is a relatively young, value minded way into full proof Demerara pot still character.
Matured with a port cask influence, the molasses spirit shows a fresh, floral and honeyed nose with a fruit schnapps lift, then a spicy, fruity and slightly metallic palate, closing on vanilla, fruit, wood and a sappy edge. The profile leans toward the bitter, leathery side of Port Mourant, with cherry, citrus, coffee and a touch of rubber and light smoke beneath. The youth shows in a firmer, drier delivery, but the classic PM markers are clearly present. This is a punchy, honest cask strength sipper for drinkers who like dry Guyana pot still and want the style at sensible money.
