Description
From A.D. Rattray comes this Royal Brackla, an 8 year old Highland malt from 2010, drawn from cask 11 and bottled at 58.1%. The outturn was 335 bottles. Royal Brackla was established in 1812 in the Highlands on the estate of Cawdor Castle; it became the first Scotch granted a royal warrant, by William IV in 1833. The house style leans on sherry wood, fruity and elegant.
Double distilled in tall copper pot stills with upward angled lyne arms, giving the refined, lightly spiced make at its heart. A sherry cask shaped it, true to the Royal Brackla house style. At a youthful age the fruit is lively and the spice gentle. A gentle, unhurried maturation suits the refined Royal Brackla character. The spirit was long destined for blends before its single malt revival. Royal Brackla was the first Scotch whisky ever to be granted a royal warrant.
At 58.1%, undiluted, it is deep and honeyed. The Oloroso brings dried fruit, fig and a nutty depth, and the refill oak lending honey and vanilla runs under citrus and a floral lift. It is refined and deep, the fruit and oak well matched. Dried fruit and oak spice see out a long finish. This is an elegant Highland malt of real depth.
