Description

This is a Royal Brackla single malt, chosen and bottled by Duncan Taylor, a 7 year old release from 2011, drawn from cask 9319227 and bottled at 52.8%. A release of 83 bottles. Royal Brackla was founded in 1812 by Captain William Fraser near Nairn, on the Cawdor Estate, and it became the first Scotch granted a royal warrant, by William IV in 1833. Long a backbone of the Dewar's blends, it is now bottled as a single malt in its own right.

The spirit was run through lamp glass spirit stills for a clean, fruity spirit, to build a fragrant, orchard fruit character. A refill American oak cask held it, keeping the fruity character to the fore. At this age the spirit is fresh and fruity, the orchard fruit and citrus bright. A long fermentation of up to 110 hours builds the fruity esters at the heart of the spirit. It is one of only three distilleries permitted to carry the Royal name in Scotch. Queen Victoria renewed the royal warrant in 1838, confirming its regal standing.

At its natural 52.8% it is concentrated. Honeyed fruit and oak spice meet soft vanilla and honey from the cask. Soft orchard fruit and honey sit behind the sweetness. It closes long, fruity and warming. This is the regal Highland malt of Cawdor.
