Description
This is a Royal Brackla single malt, chosen and bottled by Cadenhead's matured to 38 year old from 1976 and bottled at 52.9%. 150 bottles in all. Set in Nairnshire, by Cawdor Castle, Royal Brackla has distilled since 1812. Long a backbone of the Dewar's blends, it is now bottled as a single malt in its own right.
Drawn off copper stills with horizontal shell and tube condensers, building the elegant Highland style it is loved for. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, gentle American oak beneath the fruit. Past seventeen years the spirit turns honeyed and full while keeping its elegance. The light, elegant spirit shows cask character clearly even after years in oak. Queen Victoria renewed the royal warrant in 1838, confirming its regal standing. The house style leans on sherry wood, building a fruity, dried fruit character. Tall copper stills and a long fermentation give an elegant, fragrant spirit. The distillery lies near Nairn, at the edge of the Highlands above Inverness.
Undiluted at 52.9%, it is layered. Honeyed fruit and oak spice meet honeyed oak sweetness underneath. Soft orchard fruit and honey sit behind the sweetness. The close is warm, honey over soft oak. This is the regal Highland malt of Cawdor.
