Description
This Royal Brackla, an official release, a 24 year old release, drawn from cask 1 and bottled at 50.4%. 552 bottles in all. Set in Nairnshire, by Cawdor Castle, Royal Brackla has distilled since 1812. Today the distillery sits in the John Dewar and Sons stable, owned by Bacardi.
Drawn off copper stills with horizontal shell and tube condensers, building the elegant Highland style it is loved for. A sherry cask wrapped the fruity spirit in dried fruit and a nutty depth. Past seventeen years the spirit turns honeyed and full while keeping its elegance. The slow loss of the angel's share concentrates the honeyed, fruity core over time. A fruity, lightly spiced make sits at the heart of every bottling. Cawdor Burn water and tall stills shape a clean, elegant spirit. The royal warrant set Brackla apart in the early days of legal whisky.
At its natural 50.4% it is concentrated. The Pedro Ximenez lends raisin, date and treacle, and honey, apple and a soft spice sit alongside honeyed oak sweetness underneath. A baked apple and a warm spice lift it. The close is warm, honey over soft oak. This is a sherried, fruity dram from the far north.
