Description
Malts of Scotland bottled this Royal Brackla single malt, a 16 year old Highland malt from 2010, drawn from cask MoS26019 and bottled at 56.6%. Just 272 bottles were filled. Royal Brackla was built in 1812 by Captain William Fraser on the Cawdor Estate of Macbeth fame, and William IV's 1833 warrant made it the King's Own Whisky. Captain Fraser, late of the army in India, shipped his spirit south to beat the local smugglers.
It was distilled twice on soft Cawdor Burn water, for a clean, floral spirit with a gentle spice. Maturation in a wine cask lent berry fruit and a soft spice. Past a decade the fruit deepens into honey, dried fruit and a warm spice. Long ageing builds a honeyed weight over the fragrant Highland spirit. Captain William Fraser, an army man returned from India, built the distillery in 1812.
At a natural 56.6% it is full and fruity. The Port cask adds plum, red berry and raisin, and a gentle vanilla and coconut from the wood runs under a refined, fruity sweetness. A dried fruit and a gentle oak spice give it real depth. A long, honeyed finish carries a fruity lift. This is a fragrant Highland single malt of real finesse.
