This is a Royal Brackla single malt, chosen and bottled by Phil & Simon Thompson, aged 13 year old from 2011 and bottled at 48.5%. 727 bottles in all. Set on the Cawdor Estate near Nairn, Royal Brackla has distilled since 1812. Long a backbone of the Dewar's blends, it is now bottled as a single malt in its own right.

It was distilled on Cawdor Burn water in tall copper stills, for the fruity, elegant spirit Royal Brackla is known for. Ex-Bourbon casks held the spirit, soft oak that lets the fruit lead. Mid age brings a fuller honey and a deeper dried fruit note. Refill oak holds back its sweetness, letting the elegant distillery character lead. The distillery sits on the Cawdor Estate, whose castle is tied to the legend of Macbeth. Captain William Fraser, an army man returned from India, built the distillery in 1812. Water for the make is drawn from the Cawdor Burn in the northern Highlands.

At cask strength 48.5% it is full bodied. Honeyed fruit and oak spice meet a quiet vanilla from the refill oak. Soft orchard fruit and honey sit behind the sweetness. The close is warm, honey over soft oak. This is the regal Highland malt of Cawdor.
