Description
A Royal Brackla single malt, selected and bottled by Edition Spirits matured to 12 year old from 2012, drawn from cask HL 21513 and bottled at 57.9%. Only 150 bottles were released. Set on the Earl of Cawdor's estate near Nairn, Royal Brackla has distilled since 1812. It is one of only three distilleries to carry the Royal name in Scotch.
The spirit was made in copper pot stills after a long fermentation, for a fruity, honeyed make of real finesse. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, with vanilla under the orchard fruit. Past a decade the fruit deepens into honey, dried fruit and a warm spice. Patient maturation turns the orchard fruit towards honey and dried fruit. Queen Victoria renewed the royal warrant in 1838, confirming its regal standing. The house style leans on sherry wood, building a fruity, dried fruit character. Tall copper stills and a long fermentation give an elegant, fragrant spirit.
Undiluted at 57.9%, it is layered. Vanilla and a light cream from the barrel, with orchard fruit and a gentle spice. The mouthfeel is round, the fruit carried on a honeyed body. A warming, fruity finish lingers. This is a polished, fruity Highland whisky.
