Description
Single malt Royal Brackla, an independent Signatory Vintage bottling matured to 11 year old from 2014 and bottled at 57.1%. Established in 1812 on the Cawdor Estate near Nairn, Royal Brackla is the King's Own Whisky. It was the first Scotch whisky to hold a royal warrant, renewed by Queen Victoria in 1838.
It was distilled on Cawdor Burn water in tall copper stills, for the fruity, elegant spirit Royal Brackla is known for. A sherry cask wrapped the fruity spirit in dried fruit and a nutty depth. Still young, the malt is clean and fruity with a soft spice. Refill oak holds back its sweetness, letting the elegant distillery character lead. The distillery lies near Nairn, at the edge of the Highlands above Inverness. Owned today by John Dewar and Sons, part of Bacardi, it remains a quiet Highland name. Fraser shipped his spirit south to England to outpace the local smugglers of his day.
At a natural 57.1% it is full and fruity. The Oloroso brings dried fruit, fig and a nutty depth, and a fruity, honeyed elegance meet a quiet vanilla from the refill oak. Beneath it run honey, apple and a warm spice. It finishes clean, elegant and fruity. This is an elegant, fruity Highland single malt.
