Description
This is a Royal Brackla single malt, chosen and bottled by Meadowside Blending matured to 10 year old from 2011, drawn from cask 900146 and bottled at 54.1%. The outturn was 646 bottles. Opened in 1812 in Nairnshire, by Cawdor Castle, Royal Brackla is the King's Own Whisky. Long a backbone of the Dewar's blends, it is now bottled as a single malt in its own right.
Drawn off copper stills with horizontal shell and tube condensers, building the elegant Highland style it is loved for. Maturation in a sherry cask laid dried fruit over the elegant malt. At this age the spirit is fresh and fruity, the orchard fruit and citrus bright. The light, elegant spirit shows cask character clearly even after years in oak. Water for the make is drawn from the Cawdor Burn in the northern Highlands. For generations the malt was a backbone of the Dewar's blends before its single malt revival.
Bottled at a cask strength 54.1%, it is rich. The Oloroso brings dried fruit, fig and a nutty depth, and honeyed fruit and oak spice meet honeyed oak sweetness underneath. Soft orchard fruit and honey sit behind the sweetness. It finishes clean, elegant and fruity. This is the regal Highland malt of Cawdor.
