Description
This is a Royal Brackla single malt, chosen and bottled by Blackadder, a 10 year old from 2008, drawn from cask 303591 and bottled at 58.2%. A release of 329 bottles. Founded in 1812 near Nairn, on the Cawdor Estate, Royal Brackla is the King's Own Whisky. Long a backbone of the Dewar's blends, it is now bottled as a single malt in its own right.
The spirit was run through lamp glass spirit stills for a clean, fruity spirit, to build a fragrant, orchard fruit character. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, lending honey and vanilla. Younger here, it keeps a crisp, fragrant freshness over light honey. A long fermentation of up to 110 hours builds the fruity esters at the heart of the spirit. Tall copper stills and a long fermentation give an elegant, fragrant spirit. The distillery lies near Nairn, at the edge of the Highlands above Inverness. Owned today by John Dewar and Sons, part of Bacardi, it remains a quiet Highland name.
At a full 58.2% it is intense yet elegant. Honeyed fruit and oak spice meet soft vanilla and honey from the cask. Soft orchard fruit and honey sit behind the sweetness. It finishes clean, elegant and fruity. This is the regal Highland malt of Cawdor.
