Description
Blackadder bottled this Royal Brackla single malt, a 10 year old release from 2008, drawn from cask 303590 and bottled at 58.3%. Only 323 bottles were released. Royal Brackla was first built in 1812 in the Highlands on the estate of Cawdor Castle, and it became the first Scotch granted a royal warrant, by William IV in 1833. Captain Fraser, late of the army in India, shipped his spirit south to beat the local smugglers.
Double distilled in tall copper pot stills with upward angled lyne arms, giving the refined, lightly spiced make at its heart. An American oak cask shaped it, flattering the elegant, fruity make. At this age the spirit is fresh and fruity, the orchard fruit and citrus bright. A gentle, unhurried maturation suits the refined Royal Brackla character. Queen Victoria renewed the royal warrant in 1838, confirming its regal standing. The house style leans on sherry wood, building a fruity, dried fruit character.
At cask strength 58.3% it is full bodied. The refill oak lending honey and vanilla runs under a refined, fruity sweetness. A dried fruit and a gentle oak spice give it real depth. A long, honeyed finish carries a fruity lift. This is a fragrant Highland single malt of real finesse.
