Description
This official Rosebank single malt, an 8 year old and bottled at 40%. Rosebank was founded in 1840 by James Rankine on the banks of the canal in the central Lowlands and silenced in 1993. It grew into the most cherished of Lowland names.
The spirit was run three times through copper pot stills, then cooled in worm tubs, for a light, ester rich spirit with unusual body. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, the classic wood for Rosebank. At this age the spirit is bright and floral, the citrus and grass fresh. Triple distillation strips heavy congeners, concentrating light esters such as ethyl hexanoate, giving pear and apple notes. Rosebank stood on the Forth and Clyde Canal, which once carried its casks to market. The pairing of triple distillation and worm tubs was unique to Rosebank among Scotch distilleries. Blenders prized the malt for its elegant, floral character and unusual weight.
At 40% it is smooth and floral. Marzipan and soft tropical fruit meet soft vanilla and honey from the cask. Beneath it run lemon, grass and a waxy weight. It closes long, floral and honeyed. This is a finite pour from the King of the Lowlands.
