Rosebank 8 Years Old TDA Unblended Single Malt (The Distillers Agency)

This Rosebank was from the independent bottler The Distillers Agency, an 8 year old release, and bottled at 43%. Rosebank stood on the canal at Camelon, near Falkirk from 1840 until it was brought to a halt in 1993. Its triple distilled malt became a Lowland legend.

The spirit was triple distilled and worm tub cooled, the Rosebank way, for a light, ester rich spirit with unusual body. Ex-Bourbon casks held the spirit, soft oak that lets the florals lead. Still young, the malt is grassy and zesty with a delicate lift. Long, cool Lowland maturation lets the floral spirit take oak slowly over many years. The pairing of triple distillation and worm tubs was unique to Rosebank among Scotch distilleries. Blenders prized the malt for its elegant, floral character and unusual weight. Closed in 1993, the site fell derelict and its copper stills were stolen in 2008. Ian Macleod rescued the distillery, the trademark and the last casks, reopening it in 2023.

At an easy 43% it is gentle. Vanilla and a light cream from the barrel runs under gooseberry and fresh grass. A beeswax and a tropical fruit give it real depth. A softly floral finish lingers warm. This is prized stock from a distillery reborn only in 2023.
