This is a Rosebank single malt, chosen and bottled by Gordon & MacPhail, a 32 year old Lowland malt, from 1991, drawn from cask 2114 and bottled at 51.2%. The outturn was 141 bottles. Rosebank, first established in 1840 on the canal at Camelon, near Falkirk, was brought to a halt in 1993. After closure the site fell derelict, and thieves even took the copper stills in 2008.

The spirit was triple distilled and worm tub cooled, the Rosebank way, for the refined Lowland style quite its own. Ex-Bourbon casks held the spirit, soft oak that lets the florals lead. At this great age the malt is full and honeyed, the florals now a delicate whisper. Decades in oak build a waxy weight over the elegant Lowland distillate. History on the site runs back to the Stark brothers in 1798, before Rankine's 1840 distillery. The closed era stock is finite, and every bottle drawn is one fewer left.

At 51.2%, undiluted, it is deep and floral. Vanilla and a light cream from the barrel, with lime, pear and a herbal note. The texture is soft and rounded, the florals lifted by honey. The finish is elegant, waxy and tropical. This is a piece of Lowland legend in the glass.
