Description
This is a Rosebank single malt, chosen and bottled by Silver Seal, aged 30 year old, from 1975 and bottled at 55.8%. Only 180 bottles were released. Founded by James Rankine in 1840 on the canal at Camelon, near Falkirk, Rosebank was brought to a halt in 1993. It grew into the most cherished of Lowland names.
The spirit was triple distilled and worm tub cooled, the Rosebank way, for a light, ester rich spirit with unusual body. An American oak cask shaped it, flattering the floral, ester rich make. At this age it is deep and elegant, beeswax and tropical fruit folded into the florals. Decades in oak build a waxy weight over the elegant Lowland distillate. The malt was matured slowly in the temperate Lowland climate before bottling. Few lost distilleries are mourned, or bottled, as devotedly as Rosebank. Laid down before 1993, this is spirit from a distillery silent for three decades.
At a full 55.8% it is intense yet elegant. Vanilla and a light cream from the barrel, with lime, pear and a herbal note. The texture is soft and rounded, the florals lifted by honey. The finish runs clean, grassy and soft. This is stock from a closed Lowland legend, ever scarcer.
