Description
Bottled by Silver Seal, this Rosebank, a 30 year old release, from 1974 and bottled at 55.8%. The outturn was 325 bottles. Rosebank stood beside the Forth and Clyde Canal from 1840 until it was shut by its owners in 1993. Its last spirit ran in 1993, a finite legacy revered ever since.
It was distilled three times and passed through traditional worm tub condensers, giving the delicate yet weighty character it was famed for. A refill American oak cask held it, keeping the Lowland character to the fore. Past twenty years the spirit turns honeyed and tropical while keeping its finesse. The light triple distilled base lets cask character show clearly even after long years. Blenders prized the malt for its elegant, floral character and unusual weight. Closed in 1993, the site fell derelict and its copper stills were stolen in 2008. Ian Macleod rescued the distillery, the trademark and the last casks, reopening it in 2023.
At cask strength 55.8% it is full bodied. A gentle vanilla and coconut from the wood runs under citrus and a grassy freshness. It is refined and deep, the florals woven in. A softly floral finish lingers warm. This is prized stock from a distillery reborn only in 2023.
