Description
Single malt Rosebank, an independent Ian Macleod bottling, aged 22 year old, from 1990, drawn from cask 93361 and bottled at 50%. Just 512 bottles were filled. Established in 1840 beside the Forth and Clyde Canal, Rosebank was shut by its owners in 1993. Its last spirit ran in 1993, a finite legacy revered ever since.
It was distilled three times and passed through traditional worm tub condensers, giving the delicate yet weighty character it was famed for. Maturation in Oloroso sherry laid dried fruit over the floral malt. Beyond twenty years the malt grows waxy and tropical, marzipan and honey over a soft floral base. The third distillation lifts the spirit clean and high, leaving a delicate, ester rich new make. The 108 foot chimney remained a Falkirk landmark through the long silent decades. Its final vintages of the early 1990s are among the most sought after of all Lowland malts.
Undiluted at 50%, it is layered. The Oloroso brings dried fruit, fig and a nutty depth, and a gentle vanilla and coconut from the wood, with lemon and cut grass. The mouthfeel is gentle, the honey carried on a waxy body. The finish runs clean, grassy and soft. This is stock from a closed Lowland legend, ever scarcer.
