Description
This Rosebank was from the independent bottler Douglas Laing, a 21 year old from 1992, drawn from cask DL 10146 and bottled at 53.8%. A release of 141 bottles. Rosebank was first established in 1840 in Camelon near Falkirk, in the Lowlands and closed in 1993. The 108 foot chimney stood over Falkirk through the long silent years.
Triple distilled through three pot stills and condensed in wooden worm tubs, the make took the Rosebank style. A refill American oak cask held it, keeping the Lowland character to the fore. Past a decade and a half the florals deepen into honey and soft tropical fruit. A long, gentle maturation suits the refined, ester led Rosebank character. Water came from the Carron Valley, feeding a light, ester rich Lowland spirit. The 108 foot chimney remained a Falkirk landmark through the long silent decades. Its final vintages of the early 1990s are among the most sought after of all Lowland malts.
At 53.8%, undiluted, it is deep and floral. The refill oak lending honey and vanilla runs under gooseberry and fresh grass. A beeswax and a tropical fruit give it real depth. A long, honeyed finish carries a grassy note. This is a vanishing dram from Scotland's most mourned Lowland distillery.
