Description
This Rosebank was from the independent bottler Ian Macleod, a 20 year old release, from 1990, drawn from cask 3616 and bottled at 55.7%. A release of 619 bottles. Rosebank stood in Camelon near Falkirk, in the Lowlands from 1840 until it was closed in 1993. Ian Macleod reopened the distillery in 2023, though stock like this is from the original era.
Triple distilled through three pot stills and condensed in wooden worm tubs, the make took the Rosebank style. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, lending honey and vanilla under the grass. Mid age brings a fuller honey and a deeper tropical note to the florals. A long, gentle maturation suits the refined, ester led Rosebank character. Closed in 1993, the site fell derelict and its copper stills were stolen in 2008. Ian Macleod rescued the distillery, the trademark and the last casks, reopening it in 2023. The first new make ran on the 5th of June 2023, almost thirty years to the day after closure.
At a hearty 55.7% it carries real weight. The refill oak lending honey and vanilla runs under gooseberry and fresh grass. A beeswax and a tropical fruit give it real depth. A softly floral finish lingers warm. This is prized stock from a distillery reborn only in 2023.
