Description
A Rosebank single malt, selected and bottled by Speciality Drinks Ltd, a 19 year old from 1991, drawn from cask 311 and bottled at 46%. The outturn was 285 bottles. Rosebank was founded in 1840 by James Rankine on the banks of the canal in the central Lowlands and silenced in 1993. Diageo's Rare Malts sealed its cult status.
The spirit was run three times through copper pot stills, then cooled in worm tubs, for a light, ester rich spirit with unusual body. Ex-Bourbon casks held the spirit, soft oak that lets the florals lead. Past a decade and a half the florals deepen into honey and soft tropical fruit. Time in the cask deepens the delicate spirit into honey, tropical fruit and beeswax. The first new make ran on the 5th of June 2023, almost thirty years to the day after closure. Water came from the Carron Valley, feeding a light, ester rich Lowland spirit. The 108 foot chimney remained a Falkirk landmark through the long silent decades.
Reduced to 46%, it is mellow. A delicate floral, waxy depth sit alongside soft vanilla and honey from the cask. It is clean and elegant, the grassy spirit shining through. It closes long, floral and honeyed. This is a finite pour from the King of the Lowlands.
