Description
This is a Rosebank single malt, chosen and bottled by Blackadder, a 15 year old Lowland malt, from 1990, drawn from cask 1529 and bottled at 46%. Rosebank, opened in 1840 in Camelon near Falkirk, in the Lowlands, was closed in 1993. The 108 foot chimney stood over Falkirk through the long silent years.
Triple distilled through three pot stills and condensed in wooden worm tubs, the make took the Rosebank style. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, the classic wood for Rosebank. By this age the grassy spirit rounds into honey, citrus and marzipan. Refill oak flatters Rosebank, holding back its sweetness so the florals and citrus lead. Few lost distilleries are mourned, or bottled, as devotedly as Rosebank. Laid down before 1993, this is spirit from a distillery silent for three decades. History on the site runs back to the Stark brothers in 1798, before Rankine's 1840 distillery.
At 46% it is soft, grassy and honeyed. The refill oak lending honey and vanilla, with lime, pear and a herbal note. The texture is soft and rounded, the florals lifted by honey. The finish is elegant, waxy and tropical. This is a piece of Lowland legend in the glass.
