Description
A Rosebank single malt, selected and bottled by Pacific Caledonian, a 14 year old release, from 1992, drawn from cask 1371 and bottled at 58.5%. The outturn was 238 bottles. Rosebank stood at Falkirk, on the Lowland canal side from 1840 until it was closed in 1993 and long mourned. Triple distillation and worm tub condensers, a pairing unique to Rosebank, gave the malt its elegant yet weighty style.
Drawn off after a third distillation and condensed slowly in worm tubs, the make took the Rosebank style. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, the classic wood for Rosebank. Around two decades the malt gains a waxy weight over its floral core. Worm tub condensers slow the copper contact, lending a fuller body to the light Lowland spirit. Closed in 1993, the site fell derelict and its copper stills were stolen in 2008. Ian Macleod rescued the distillery, the trademark and the last casks, reopening it in 2023.
Undiluted at 58.5%, it is layered. A delicate floral, waxy depth sit alongside honeyed oak sweetness underneath. It is clean and elegant, the grassy spirit shining through. The close is gentle, florals over soft oak. This is a collectable relic of a cult Lowland name.
