Description
A Rosebank single malt, selected and bottled by High Spirits' Collection matured to 14 year old, from 1988, drawn from cask 848 and bottled at 46%. Only 305 bottles were released. The Lowland Rosebank, founded by James Rankine in 1840 on the Forth and Clyde Canal at Falkirk, was mothballed in 1993. Its closed era stock became a collector's prize.
It was put through three stills and worm tubs for body and finesse, giving a clean, fruity spirit with a worm tub weight. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, gentle American oak beneath the fruit. Around two decades the malt gains a waxy weight over its floral core. The clean, high collected spirit ages gracefully, keeping its floral lift. Rosebank stood on the Forth and Clyde Canal, which once carried its casks to market. The pairing of triple distillation and worm tubs was unique to Rosebank among Scotch distilleries. Blenders prized the malt for its elegant, floral character and unusual weight.
At 46% it is supple and fragrant. A delicate floral, waxy depth sit alongside a quiet vanilla from the refill oak. It is clean and elegant, the grassy spirit shining through. Lemon, honey and oak draw out the close. This is a rare survivor of the 1993 closure.
