A fifteen year old Dominican ron from the Ron Sostenible Vintage Collection drawing on La Isabela, a 2008 molasses rum aged in ex-bourbon wood with a bright, simple profile of orange, lime and gentle sweetness at 46%.
Description
Ron Sostenible bottles Dominican Republic rum with a sustainability angle, and this Vintage Collection release sources from La Isabela in the soft Spanish style. The spirit is molasses based and built for smoothness, with the cask carrying the flavour over a light, clean base.
Fifteen years in ex-bourbon barrels has given a surprisingly fresh, citrus led character rather than a heavy one. Orange and lime define the nose, and that bright fruit follows onto a palate of orange and a measured sweetness, with the same citrus carrying into the finish. Bottled at 46%, it has a little more backbone than the standard forty percent Dominican rons while keeping their easygoing nature. The sugar status is not declared, and the sweetness here feels integrated rather than heavy. A clean, fruit forward sipper for drinkers who like their aged ron on the lighter, brighter side.
