A Cuban ron from Cuba Ron, distilled from molasses on a column still in the light island style, leaning on caramel, vanilla, dried apricot and chocolate in a soft, easy after dinner pour at 40%.
Description
Ron Cubay's Sao Can Reserva is a Cuban ron from the state producer Cuba Ron, made in the classic ron ligero tradition: molasses fermented short, distilled on a column still and blended for lightness and approachability. It carries no firm age statement and is bottled at a gentle 40%, very much in the smooth, after dinner mould.
Maturation details are not specified, though the soft caramel and vanilla profile points to ageing in the usual ex-bourbon style oak. The aroma is light with treacle, dried apricot and chocolate, and those carry onto a palate of caramel, vanilla and more dried apricot before a short caramel finish. Tasters note an almost chocolate forward character and a typically light Cuban body. Added sugar is not disclosed, and this drinks as an inoffensive, mellow sipper rather than a bold or structured one, best suited to drinkers who like their rum soft and sweet leaning.
