A long-aged Canary Islands cane juice rhum from Ron Aldea, marrying three vintages from 2009, 2004 and 1998 across nearly two decades in ex-bourbon oak, bottled dry at 46%.
Description
Ron Aldea Triple Vintage is an agricole-style rhum from La Palma in the Canary Islands, where Aldea has distilled from fresh-pressed sugar-cane juice for generations. The bottling blends three vintages, 2009, 2004 and 1998, for a stated age close to twenty years, built on the lighter, cleaner creole column style.
The Canaries sit outside the French AOC, so this is cane juice rhum in spirit rather than under that rule book. Long ageing in ex-bourbon casks, here in a cooler subtropical climate, tends to layer vanilla, toasted oak and gentle spice over the grassy cane core. Bottled unsweetened at 46%, it should read drier and more spice-forward than a sweet molasses rum of similar age.
