An eight year aged rum from the Canary Islands’ Ron Aldea, made from molasses and matured in ex-bourbon wood, unsweetened with honey, caramel and leather over a woody, dried fruit and chocolate palate at 40%.
Description
Ron Aldea Envejecido is made by the Ron Aldea distillery on La Palma in the Canary Islands, one of Europe's few genuine rum producing regions with a long local cane tradition. Carrying eight years of age and declared unsweetened, it offers an honest, traditionally styled aged rum from an unusual origin.
Distilled from molasses on a column still and matured in ex-bourbon casks, it was bottled at 40%. The nose shows honey, caramel and a touch of leather, while the palate turns toward caramelised sugar, dried fruit, oak and chocolate, with some tasters even catching a faint, peat like smoky note. Dry and gently woody rather than sweet, it sits comfortably in the European aged rum tradition. This makes an interesting, well made sipper for those curious about Canary Island rum and happy with a softer, unsweetened, oak led style taken neat.
