A Danish-bottled Georgia cane-juice rum with a light agricole touch, easygoing and faintly sweet with caramel, vanilla, milk chocolate and a Dr Pepper-like spice, certified unsweetened and gentle at 43.1%.
Description
This Collectors Series No. 4 is a Richland Rum from Georgia in the United States, bottled by the Danish independent RomDeluxe, a house better known for its high-ester Wild Series funk bombs. Here it works in a softer register: a three year old cane-juice rum distilled on a copper pot still and aged in American oak, certified unsweetened despite a profile that reads gently sweet.
Richland makes a rare American cane-juice rum, so this sits as agricole-style rather than true rhum agricole. The pot still gives a rounder shape than a creole column, with sugarcane, caramel and cherry on the nose and vanilla, milk chocolate and a curious Dr Pepper-like spice across the palate. Young and gentle rather than deep, it finishes lightly sweet and oaky. It makes an easy bridge between sweeter molasses rums and the more vegetal agricoles, suited to relaxed sipping or a casual side-by-side tasting.
