A seven year Long Pond at high strength from Romdeluxe, this is full of the distillery’s funk, overripe banana, citrus and glue over oily, smoky wood and caramel, an unsweetened pot still single cask at a forceful 66%.
Description
Long Pond is the historic Wedderburn house of Trelawny, fruit forward and unmistakably funky, and Romdeluxe has built its reputation on high ester, high strength single casks. This No. 65 takes the MHLCLP marque to seven years and bottles it at a punchy 66%, intense and unashamedly characterful.
Distilled from molasses on the pot still and matured in ex-bourbon oak, the rum leans into Long Pond's signature funk. The aroma is fruity and overripe with banana, citrus and a light glue note, the palate turns to banana, wood and an oily, smoky character, and the finish keeps the wood, fruit, caramel and citrus. There is plenty of the distillery's funk and integrated power, with the oak and tropical fruit pulling together. This is a vivid, funk heavy Long Pond for drinkers who enjoy the house style at full force, best taken slowly and neat.
