Romdeluxe Limited Batch Series 2000

Romdeluxe, the Danish house behind the high ester Wild Series, releases this Nicaraguan as part of its Limited Batch Series, drawing a 2000 vintage single cask from Compania Licorera and bottling it unsweetened at 61%. Nicaragua's slow aged, cleaner, more spirit forward style suits this treatment, and twenty one years in ex bourbon wood gives a nose of pineapple, roasted notes, tropical fruit and freshness.

The palate is sweet and bright, caramel and a clear bourbon character over a grassy, fresh edge, finishing on caramel, oak, more bourbon and barrel. The alcohol is well integrated for the strength, making it intense without being heady, with coconut, dried apricot, dark chocolate and a touch of lime adding depth. With no added sugar, this is a powerful but pleasant old Nicaraguan, a cask strength sipper that rewards a slow approach and a little water for anyone who enjoys fresh, bourbon leaning aged rum.
