Romdeluxe Le Galion Le Galion (Batch II)

RomDeluxe of Denmark, known for high ester, high strength single casks, bottles this Le Galion at cask strength of 59.1%. Le Galion is a Martinique distillery, but this is a molasses based rum rather than a cane juice agricole, made in the intensely aromatic grand arome tradition, so it is best flagged as molasses despite the agricole heading.

Unaged and bottled strong, it is a bold, characterful white. The nose is heady and assertive with solvents, cherry, strawberry, passion fruit, melon and citrus over a fermented, lightly roasted base, the hallmark of a true grand arome. The palate is rich and intense with grassy, vegetal and citrus notes carrying a striking medicinal, iodine and saline edge, and the finish brings spice, warmth, fruit and a floral lift. Divisive and far from gentle, it rewards drinkers who like bold, funky, savoury whites, neat or in a cocktail.
