A cask-strength Foursquare single cask chosen by RomDeluxe for its Collectors Series, seventeen years old and made without added sugar, showing caramel, coconut and cream toffee over plenty of toasty oak, firm and a touch roasty at 57.9%.
Description
RomDeluxe, the Danish bottler best known for its high-octane Wild Series, turned to Foursquare for this Collectors Series release, a seventeen year old single cask from Richard Seale's St Philip distillery. Foursquare works in the classic Barbados single blend style, double-retort pot married with column rum, and bottles strictly without added sugar, colour or flavour, so the character here is all oak and distillate.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak and bottled at cask strength, it shows the house signature of caramel, coconut and banana alongside citrus, with vanilla and cream toffee on the palate. The long maturation pushes it toward toasted and roasted oak on the finish, with dried fruit behind. At 57.9% it is firm and a little assertive, the recognisable Foursquare profile worn with plenty of wood, suiting drinkers who like their Bajan rum dry, full proof and on the toasty side.
