Polished wood, pencil shavings, herbs and liquorice fill this 31 Year Old Romdeluxe Wild Series bottling, an unsweetened single cask whose MEV marque carries clear Versailles pot still DNA at a firm 54.5 percent.
Description
Romdeluxe released this as Enmore No. 27 in its Wild Series, a single cask from the 1990 vintage given more than thirty-one years to mature. The MEV marque and the unmistakable wooden pot character place it firmly in Versailles territory, the single greenheart pot still that sits between elegant Enmore and oily Port Mourant, all bright timber and bracing structure.
Distilled from molasses and matured in ex-bourbon oak to a dry, unsweetened finish, it doubles down on wood. The nose is a joiner's workshop of polished timber, pencil shavings, floral notes and dried apricot, the palate roasted and herbal with liquorice, pepper, aniseed and restrained fruit, and the close stays long, woody and reminiscent of black tea. At 54.5 percent it is dense and focused, a classic old Versailles for drinkers who want their Demerara dark, dry and led by timber.
