Description
Rokeby's Half Crown is a London Dry in the proper sense: distilled the traditional way with nothing added afterwards, no sugar, no flavourings, just the spirit and its botanicals. The name tips its hat to the 19th-century British half-crown coin, and the vintage-styled bottle plays along. The bill is a finely judged set of classics, juniper, coriander seed, citrus peel, angelica and a handful of supporting herbs and spices, arranged for balance rather than show.
The nose is fresh and classic, dominant juniper with lemon zest, coriander and a hint of pepper; the palate is dry and precise, with balanced herbal notes, tart citrus, fine juniper oil and a quiet spiciness. The finish is medium and clean, faintly bitter. This is a gin that wants a job: build it into a gin and tonic with dry tonic and a lemon twist, or let it carry a Martini.
