Description
Rogues' Banquet Blended Scotch Whisky CB (Compass Box) is a blended Scotch from Compass Box. It marries malt and grain whiskies, with Highland malt such as Clynelish for a waxy depth. Most of its make goes to blending, with a fourteen year old the flagship single malt.
The Clynelish within gives a waxy, citrussy coastal note. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, the soft oak letting the waxy citrus lead. Long ageing turns the fresh lemon towards candied orange, beeswax and tropical fruit. A coastal maturation lends a faint brine to the oily, waxy malt. The unpeated make leans on texture and citrus, the cask adding depth. Active wood frames the citrus without smothering the waxy texture. A coastal maturation lends a faint brine to the waxy, oily spirit. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the wax. The famous wax is said to come from the build up in the distillery's feints receivers.
Reduced to 46%, it is supple. A waxy, oily texture runs through it, with citrus, honey and a coastal lift. A beeswax and a savoury edge give it depth. The finish is deep, waxy and maritime. A characterful blended Scotch.
