A single cask Diamond 2013 with a Port Mourant marque, bottled by Rock & Rhum from the heritage stock at the Diamond distillery. The PM recipe usually points to oily liquorice and dark fruit, but at 10 years this younger, wallet-friendly version shows a softer, more pastry-like face, an accessible entry into the still's character.
Maturated from molasses in ex-bourbon wood at 53%, it noses on apple, tropical fruit and a faint alcoholic lift, then delivers butterscotch, yellow fruit, vanilla and wood, finishing on oak, earth, liquorice and caramel, with a light rubbery touch typical of the marque. Unsweetened and bottled at modest cask strength, it balances gentle funk with sweet, pastry-fruity richness rather than full-on oily intensity, the alcohol sitting well. A friendly, affordable way into PM-style Guyana that still rewards a bit of attention.
