Rivière du Mât Arrangé – Mangue Passion

A rhum arrangé from Rivière du Mât on Reunion, the island's macerated style in which rum is infused with fruit. Despite Reunion's agricole reputation this one is built on a molasses base rather than cane juice, column distilled and then steeped with mango and passion fruit, so it should be read as a flavoured rum rather than a dry sipper.

The nose and palate are dominated by the fruit pairing, ripe mango and tangy passion fruit lifted by apricot, with a little caramel underneath and a soft tropical, lightly woody finish. At 35% it is gentle and rounded, made to drink on its own with or without ice. What sets it apart from the category is restraint: it carries real fruit intensity without the cloying sweetness many arrangés pile on, so the passion fruit tartness still cuts through. An easygoing, fruit-forward pour rather than a serious aged rum.
