An organic Martinique blanc from Rhum J.M, distilled from fresh cane juice from the far-north Mont Pelee terroir, fresh sugarcane, lime and anise with a saline mineral edge, bottled unsweetened at a rounded cask strength 58.2%.
Description
This organic blanc is a J.M bottling produced for the Confrerie du Rhum, made from fresh sugar-cane juice under the Martinique AOC. J.M has distilled since 1845 in the far north of Martinique, drawing on the volcanic Mont Pelee terroir, and this organic cuvee is an unaged blanc bottled at a powerful 58.2% with no added sugar.
The creole column runs low to preserve the grassy, vegetal cane congeners, and the result is bright and saline. The nose carries fresh sugarcane, citrus and grass with a faint olive and tomato note, the palate turns peppery and grassy with anise, and the finish stays fresh with cane, citrus and a salty, floral edge. Several years resting in stainless steel tanks help the high strength integrate, so it drinks rounder than the proof suggests. At 58.2% it is powerful yet balanced, a vivid Martinique blanc made for a high-end Ti Punch or a cool neat sip.
