A limited aged Martinique agricole from Rhum J.M, dry and spice-led rather than fruity, all cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and woody cocoa over a grassy, anise-tinged finish, AOC cane juice bottled at 45.7%.
Description
The Dame Jeanne Numero 3, a 2024 limited release from Rhum J.M, the far-north Martinique distillery on Mont Pelee terroir prized for its aged agricole. As an AOC agricole it is fresh-pressed cane juice with no added sugar, here a mature thirteen and a half years, run off a creole column and bottled unsweetened at 45.7%.
This leans dry, woody and spice-driven rather than sweet or fruity, a more austere take on J.M's house character. The nose is woody with cinnamon, nutmeg and cocoa, and the palate carries cinnamon, wood, nutmeg and ginger in a drier, grassier register. The finish stays spicy and woody with grass and anise. There is real aromatic intensity for the moderate strength, well balanced if firmly on the grassy side, with vanilla playing a supporting rather than leading role. Honest and unsweetened, it is a thoughtful, dry aged agricole for slow evenings and for drinkers who want spice and structure over fruit.
