A lightly aged Martinique ESB from J.M, fresh sugar-cane meeting young wood, vanilla and floral spice, an approachable first step into oaked agricole, pressed from fresh cane juice and bottled unsweetened at a lively 50%.
Description
J.M distills in the far north of Martinique under the shadow of Mont Pelee, a prized AOC house dating to 1845. This Eleve Sous Bois sits in the ESB tier, rested at least a year in oak, the bridge between a fresh blanc and a fully aged vieux. Pressed from fresh sugar-cane juice and bottled unsweetened, it keeps one foot firmly in the grassy camp.
Column-distilled low to preserve the green congeners, it shows the cane character lifted by light oak: fresh sugar-cane, young wood and a floral note on the nose, then spice, vanilla, citrus and dried fruit across the palate, finishing on vanilla, young wood and floral spice. The brief time in oak softens and rounds the spirit without burying its freshness. At 50% it has body and snap yet stays approachable, an easy and good-value introduction to lightly aged agricole, equally at home neat or in a cocktail.
