A wine-finished agricole from Rhum J.M in Martinique, fresh cane juice from the Mt Pelee slopes turned deep red-fruit and floral with apricot and cedar over a red-wine, woody close at 47.6%.
Description
Dame Jeanne 4 is a wine-cask release from Rhum J.M, the northern Martinique distillery that works the volcanic slopes of Mont Pelee from fresh-pressed sugar-cane juice. As a Martinique agricole it sits under the island's AOC, with this expression defined by its time in wine wood.
The wine cask reshapes the grassy agricole base toward orchard and vineyard, with red fruits, apricot and floral notes on the nose, then red fruits, red wine and cedar across the palate. The result is richer and more wine-driven than a standard vieux, though still recognisably J.M underneath. Bottled at 47.6%, it makes a compelling case for cane juice married to wine wood, a sipping agricole for drinkers curious how the style behaves outside the usual ex-bourbon oak.
