An independent La Mauny blanc from Rhum Chantal Comte at cask strength 50.3%, a fresh, subtle Martinique white where sugar cane dominates, peppery and lime laced with a green vegetal core, finishing fresh, oily and balanced.
Description
Rhum Chantal Comte is a respected French selector, and this Cuvee Caribaea draws on Maison La Mauny of Martinique from the 2020 vintage. Pressed from fresh sugar cane juice on a creole column still and bottled unsweetened at cask strength of 50.3%, it is a lightly rested AOC blanc that puts cane purity ahead of power.
The character is fresh and refined, the cane firmly in the lead. The nose is peppery and bright with sugar cane, lime and a clean lift, and the palate keeps that sugar cane core alongside a green, vegetal pepperiness. The finish is fresh, oily and well balanced, the strength carried smoothly. This is a subtle, well made white where the selector's hand shows in the cohesion rather than any dramatic flourish, a fine cane forward agricole to sip neat or build into a Ti Punch.
