Rhum Chantal Comte HSE Cuvée Caribaea Rhum Vieux Agricole VO 2017

This Cuvee Caribaea is an HSE vieux, distilled at Distillerie du Simon in Martinique from fresh pressed sugar cane and selected by Rhum Chantal Comte. From a 2017 vintage, it is four years old yet bottled at a powerful cask strength of 57.02%, and it shows the kind of depth and polish usually associated with longer ageing, a function of tropical maturation accelerating the oak.

The creole column distillation keeps the cane character intact while ex bourbon oak builds a rich frame around it. Expect intense fresh cane, tropical fruit, butterscotch and warm spice on the nose and palate, with bright fruit still in play beneath the wood. The finish runs long and dry, with pepper, leather and oak. It is a striking demonstration of how much a young agricole can offer at full strength, punchy and structured for drinkers who enjoy serious, dry power.
