Oak, chocolate and toasted almond dominate this extra añejo from Rey Sol, aged six years in French white oak until the agave gives way almost fully to deep barrel sweetness and dried fruit.

Description
Rey Sol Extra Añejo is a 100% Blue Weber agave tequila from Casa San Matias in Guadalajara, presented in a striking decanter with a glass stopper. As an extra añejo it carries at least three years in oak by class, and this expression goes much further, six years in cask, so the spirit reads oak-dominant with the agave receding well into the background.
The wood is French white oak, and a long stay there shapes an intense amber colour with copper and orange reflections. The nose recalls oak, chocolate, vanilla, hazelnut, roasted almonds and dried fruit, while the palate opens sweet and full-bodied with the oak notes leading, closing long on chocolate and almond. Bottled at 38%. This is a barrel-driven sipper better suited to red meat, dessert or coffee than to showing raw agave character.
